de Koornmolen

Recreational area de Rottemeren

The Rottemeren area can be divided into seven different recreational areas: Bleiswijkse Fles and Bleiswijkse Zoom, Eendragtspolder, Hoge Bergse Bos, Lage Bergse Bos, Nessebos, Zevenhuizerplas and Zevenhuizer Zoom. Recreational park de Koornmolen is actually located on a border between the Zevenhuizer Zoom and the Eendragtspolder. Everything is easily accessible on foot or by bike from the Koornmolen.

Bleiswijkse Fles and Bleiswijkse Zoom

This area is located on the east side of Bleiswijk. The western shore of the Rottemeren is bursting with activities: walking and cycling paths, the beach, donkey riding at the petting zoo, fitness training or relaxing on a terrace. People who love peace and nature should be at the southern part of the Zoom. You can enjoy the wonderful nature extra on the swampy Boot Path. On one of the jetties you can cast a fishing rod or take the ferry to the other side. Via the ferry you will return to Eetcafé de Roerdomp and you will be at Recreatiepark de Koornmolen within five minutes. Still close to the ferry on the Bleiswijk side is the Bleiswijks Verlaat, a restored lock from 1774. North of Bleiswijk, the Bleiswijkse Fles forms the green connection between Zoetermeer and the Rottemeren. Here you can enjoy walking and cycling. Eendragtspolder

The former Zevenhuizense Bos once stood here. Now it is mainly characterized by the unique combination of nature, top sport and water storage. Rowers rage on the Willem-Alexander Baan, which meets the Olympic requirements of the World Rowing Federation. There are often beautiful matches here. For example, in July 2019 we had a World Cup competition where the entire international top was present. In addition to rowers, open water swimmers, canoeists, triathletes, runners and cyclists also benefit from the sporting opportunities. When the weather is really Dutch, the rowing course and the adjacent wetland area serve as temporary water storage. The Eendragspolder is a great area for bird watchers. Numerous special birds have been spotted and in January 2020 there were suddenly seven Flamingos in the area to admire. A special face. A lookout tower provides an overview of the entire area. You can also find the Hennipgaarde play and exercise polder here.

Eendragtspolder

Hoge Bergse Bos

Once a central point of rubble dump, it is now a hilly landscape. Active outdoor sportsmen can get their money's worth here. There is an (outdoor) artificial ski slope and a mountain bike trail. You can also enjoy good running, rollerblading, skating, survival, (disk) golf, mountain biking and climbing (indoor and outdoor). There is a 34 meter high climbing mountain. The climbing mountain is built in the shape of the top of Monte Cervino, the mountain on the Swiss side Matterhorn.

Hoge Bergse Bos

Lage Bergse Bos

In this part you can enjoy nature at a leisurely pace. This forest has been laid out in the romantic English landscape style, with ponds, winding paths, islands and beautiful vistas through the trees. An hour of pedal boating or sailing with the whisper boat fits in perfectly with this. There is also a play polder with a pond. And every now and then a large Scottish Highlander comes sauntering past. In Speelpolder De Bergse Vallei children can enjoy climbing, romping, building and getting dirty.

Lage Bergse Bos

Nessebos

Looking for peace and quiet? Away from the busy life. We all want that. Woods, water and swamps provide the tranquility you are looking for in the Nessebos. Follow the nature route or the boots path for an hour of ultimate relaxation.

Nessebos

Zevenhuizerplas

You can enjoy sunbathing and swimming at the largest swimming lake in South Holland. Water skiing is also one of the options. Even diving is a possibility. Would you rather not have the hustle and bustle of the beaches? Then take a leisurely stroll around the lake. On the north bank you walk through a quiet swamp forest. Here you can just bump into a kingfisher or reed bird. With a boat you can visit two of the four natural islands.

Zevenhuizerplas

Zevenhuizer Zoom

It may be hard to believe, but there were once about eighty windmills in the Rottemeren area. Most of these have long since disappeared, but four windmills have survived in the Zevenhuizer Zoom. The windmill fourgang dating from 1722 forms four mills in a row and is still one of the two intact windmill fourgangs in the Netherlands.

Het Koornmolengat

This is where Zevenhuizen originated. There used to be seven farms here. Later, the core of the village was formed on the spot where it is now. The Koornmolengat has become a nature reserve. This nature reserve is the last piece of swamp peat in the Tweemanspolder. It has only been partially de-swept and has not been drained either. Willows, alder and ash, interspersed with birch, rowan and hops, among other things, line the ditches and fens in this wetland forest. There are many species of waterfowl, including a colony of cormorants and it is an important resting place for several species of heron. The flora in the area is very diverse and it is a paradise for insects, mice and mustelids. You can take a guided walking tour in the summer months. Entering the area itself is dangerous and strictly prohibited! The Koornmolengat is located directly behind Recreatiepark de Koornmolen.
